The Center for Space Medicine Berlin (ZWMB) was established in 2000 as a joint initiative with the German Aerospace Agency (DLR), bringing together six teams from the Medical Faculty of the Free University of Berlin and the Charité, Humboldt University.

The project Charite in Space, as well as the website’s idea and design was developed by Dr. Oliver Opatz, working at the Center for Space Medicine Berlin.
